X-ray free electron laser linear accelerator without a laser heater

Linear accelerator based X-ray free electron laser (FEL) light sources provide an important tool for scientific discoveries. Most of these source facilities employ a heater to increase the beam’s uncorrelated energy spread suppress microbunching instability through linear accelerators. In this paper, we first studied in FEL with lower initial peak current (∼10 A) and moderate final currents (1−2 kA). regime, can be substantially mitigated modest spread. We then suggested less expensive method mitigate using section low beta FODO lattice instead heater. With use high brightness beam from photoinjector, intrabeam scattering effect inside generate sufficient instability. At last, demonstrated feasibility self-consistent solution Fokker–Planck equation accelerator.
